Understanding Our Cancellation Policy

Clear communication and mutual respect are the foundation of great childcare relationships. Here’s what you need to know about our cancellation policy and why it matters.

Running a household is unpredictable. Plans change, meetings get rescheduled, kids get sick, and life happens. We get it; flexibility is important, especially when it comes to childcare.

However, our babysitters are professionals who depend on their scheduled hours, and last-minute cancellations impact their livelihood. That’s why we’ve created a cancellation policy that balances the needs of busy families with fairness to our hardworking sitters.

Here’s everything you need to know about how our cancellation policy works and why it exists.

Illness Policy:

Why We Have a Cancellation Policy

1. Our Sitters Are Professionals

Babysitting isn’t just a side gig for our team—for many of our sitters, it’s their primary source of income. When they accept your booking, they:

When a cancellation happens at the last minute, they’ve lost that income with no time to fill the gap with another job.

2. Respect Goes Both Ways

We ask our sitters to be reliable, punctual, and professional. In return, we need families to respect their time and commitment. A cancellation policy creates accountability on both sides and ensures everyone is treated fairly.

3. It Protects Availability for Everyone

When families hold time slots and cancel last-minute, it prevents other families who genuinely need care from booking those hours. A cancellation policy encourages thoughtful booking and helps ensure sitters are available when families truly need them.

4. Sitter Health & Safety

Our sitters work with multiple families. When they’re exposed to illness without warning, it can:

Our illness policy protects everyone in our community.

Understanding the Illness Policy

What You Should Do:

Notify us immediately if anyone in your household is sick – even if symptoms seem minor

Err on the side of caution – if you’re not sure, let us know and we’ll help you decide

Don’t wait until the sitter arrives – call or email as soon as you know

Understand that sitters have the right to protect their health – if they arrive and someone is visibly ill, they can refuse the job

What Counts as “Illness”:

When in doubt, communicate with us! We’d rather reschedule than put anyone’s health at risk.

Special Circumstances & Flexibility

We understand that life doesn’t always fit into neat policies. Here are situations where we may show additional flexibility:

True Emergencies

Deaths in the family, serious accidents, medical emergencies, or other crisis situations are handled with compassion. Let us know what’s happening and we’ll work with you.

Weather Emergencies

Severe weather, school closures, or unsafe travel conditions may warrant policy exceptions. Safety always comes first.

Recurring Bookings

If you have regular standing appointments and need to cancel one due to a schedule conflict, reach out early. We may have more flexibility for established, loyal clients.

The key in all these situations: communicate with us as soon as possible. Honesty and early communication make all the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I need to leave work early and don’t need my sitter after all?

A: If you can let us know more than 24 hours in advance, there’s no fee. With less than 24 hours’ notice, a $50 fee applies. With less than 4 hours’ notice, you’ll be charged for 4 hours. Consider keeping the sitter anyway; you could run errands, have a date night, or get things done around the house!

Q: Can I reschedule instead of canceling?

A: Absolutely! If you reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice, there’s no fee. If you reschedule with less notice, the same cancellation fees apply to the original time slot.

Q: What if my child seems fine but develops a fever an hour before the sitter arrives?

A: Contact us immediately. While this falls under the less-than-4-hours policy, we understand these situations happen suddenly. Communication is key, let us know right away and we’ll work with you.

Q: What if only one child is sick but the others are fine?

A: Please notify us. The sitter may still be exposed to illness, and most childhood illnesses are contagious before symptoms appear in siblings. We’ll help you determine the best course of action.

Q: My child has allergies and is coughing but isn’t contagious. Will the sitter refuse the job?

A: If you let us know ahead of time that the symptoms are allergy-related and not contagious, that’s fine. The key is communication—don’t let the sitter arrive and discover coughing without context.

Q: What constitutes an “emergency” that might waive fees?

A: True emergencies include serious accidents, medical crises, deaths in the family, or situations genuinely beyond your control. We evaluate these case-by-case. A work meeting running late or traffic isn’t an emergency, but a car accident or sudden hospitalization is.
